One Year Anniversary of Obama's Inauguration

one year to the day after obama was inaugurated, a part of me does wonder whether he has lived up to his promises. another part of me feels that it is much harder to get things done in washington than we citizens believe. today, on this anniversary, i still have hope for change. i don't think obama has given up and so neither have i.

one year ago i was in washington, dc with my roommate danielle and her family. we biked into the city only a few hours before the inauguration ceremony began. this left us standing near the washington monument, several blocks away from the action. what i remember from that day is not what obama or anyone else said (although his speech nearly brought me to tears). i remember the sense of camaraderie, excitement, and hope that permeated the crowd. these are photos that i took during the inaugural concert and the inauguration.

Goodbye, Midwest

today is my last day in ohio before i head back to syracuse. the snow has all melted, but the grey skies and bare trees retain the beauty and loneliness of winter. so, while i sit at the kitchen table staring out the window, i bid farewell to the midwest: a place which i sometimes hate, but will always love.

On The Banks of the Li River

the li river, which flows through guangxi province in china, seems like paradise to the many tourists that flock to its banks every year. they rave about the serene river and the bizarrely shaped, yet beautiful mountains that surround it. travel websites call a relaxing li river cruise a 'must' for travelers in guangxi.




the scenery is indeed breathtaking. however, the river is not a tourist attraction for everyone.
